1510.015.20 Full Time Student in Institution of Higher Education
Refugees who are full-time students in institutions of higher education are not eligible for Refugee Assistance but can receive Medicaid only, if otherwise eligible.
Full-time student is defined as a student enrolled in an institution of higher education (other than a correspondence school) who is carrying a full-time academic workload as determined by the school, under standards applicable to all students enrolled in that particular program.
Institution of higher education includes the following:
- A public or private nonprofit institution of higher education which provides:
- An educational program for which it awards an associate, baccalaureate, graduate, or professional degree.
- At least a two year program which is acceptable for full credit toward a baccalaureate degree, or
- At least a one year training program which leads to a certificate or degree and prepares students for gainful employment in a recognized occupation.
- A propriety institution of higher education which provides at least a six month program of training to prepare students for gainful employment in a recognized occupation.
- A post-secondary vocational institution which is a public or private nonprofit educational institution which provides at least a six month program of training to prepare students for gainful employment in a recognized occupation.
