- TO:
- ALL AREA AND COUNTY OFFICES
- FROM:
- JANEL R. LUCK, DIRECTOR
- SUBJECT:
- FOOD STAMP WORKER INITIATED REJECTION
DISCUSSION:
Effective November 3, 2008, a worker initiated rejection (WIRJ) will not be allowed prior to the 30th day following the date of application for an initial or non-timely application or the end date of the certification period for a timely recertification. Applications rejected prior to the 30th day or end of the certification period will require a Supervisor or higher authorization, with the exception of a voluntary withdrawal (VOW).
The eligibility specialist rejects an application in certain circumstances when the system does not know to initiate the rejection. This could happen when:
- the applicant voluntarily withdraws the application, or
- fails to keep a scheduled appointment and the controlled flow cannot be completed.
If the eligibility specialist attempts to enter a rejection on the Select Authorization (FM3G) screen for any reason other than voluntary withdrawal (VOW), the message "Supervisor must enter WIRJ if within 30 days of App Date" appears. The Supervisor must be signed on in FAMIS to authorize the worker initiated rejection.
There is no change in policy for rejecting timely and non-timely re-application or initial applications. The 30th day appears on the Application Request (FM0G/REQUEST) screen.
NECESSARY ACTION:
- Review immediately with appropriate staff.
